Wszelkiego rodzaju łaty kojarzą mi się z dzieciństwem i dziurami na kolanach lub łokciach. Moja mama w takim przypadku robiła taka „łatę” z kawałka materiału, który był dostępny w domu i zaszywała powstała dziurę w odzieży. Jeszcze do nie dawna ludzie nie posiadali dużej ilości ubrań a przede wszystkim nie mogli sobie pozwolić na wyrzucanie ich ponieważ postała w nich dziura. Z powodu biedy i malej ilości wyrobów tanich i łatwo dostępnych udzie pomagali sobie właśnie łatami tak aby nie wyglądać jak obdarciuch.
Taka łata była również dobrym zabezpieczeniem. Np. jeźdźcy konni mieli zabezpieczone łokcie i kolana takimi latami by uchronić materiał by się nie podarł. Dodatkowa warstwa zazwyczaj grubszego i trwalszego materiału pozwalała by część zabezpieczona nie uległa zniszczeniu.
Teraz łaty na łokciach itp. są bardziej ozdobą niż elementem zakrycia uszkodzeń materiału. Z powodu ogólnej i dużej dostępności odzieży możemy pozwolić sobie na wyrzucenie rzeczy uszkodzonej i kupienie następnej sztuki. Nie musimy specjalnie łatać ubrań jak to robiły nasze babcie.
Uważam, że jeśli ktoś jest sprytny i oszczędny lub bardzo lubi rzecz, która się zniszczyła w miejscach wiadomych do przyszycia łaty, jak najbardziej sam może coś takiego zrobić. Wychodzi taniej a przy tym oryginalniej bo wiadomym jest fakt, że jeśli zrobisz to sam nikt inny nie będzie miał takiej samej rzeczy.
